Well, Er', I'm absolutely the LAST guy to quote books of the Bible, but Job is once place to look -- not for answers, but for support. Not necessarily for understanding, unfortunately, but for context.
And hey -- is it my imagination, or is there something in that quaint, Hebrew way of not spelling out the entire name of Yahweh, but rather using an abbreviation, that speaks more volumes? "YHWH" . . . to me, anyway, that reads, backwards: "Hey, WHY?"
I agree with your brother. Some stuff just doesn't make sense. Sadly, we have to just . . . deal . . . with it.

I have no idea. It seems pretty hard to find a purpose in some of the lessons we are dealt. Meaning. Logic.
